| | This is a four week series that is a compassionate offering to the GLBT (gay lesbian, bisexual and transgendered) community, their friends and families and for people who want to explore inclusiveness in our spiritual communities. This may also be of interest to those whose spiritual communities are currently struggling with the issue of becoming an “affirming congregation.” | | The series kicks off with a movie “For the Bible Tells Me So” (www.forthebibletellsmeso.org) that challenges Bible based oppression of the GLBT community. Refreshments and panel discussion to follow the movie screenings. No charge. Donations accepted | Week 1: Perspectives on the Bible | | Many people have been hurt by the Bible and its misuse to justify hatred, oppression and exclusion. We will examine and challenge those few Bible verses that have been misinterpreted to justify oppression of the GLBT community as we seek a new way to understand the Bible in a way that is relevant and meaningful in today’s world. The key is to be able to read the Bible with an understanding and discerning heart and mind. | Week 2: Development of Consciousness | | At every level of human history, humankind’s perception of God has evolved. Our individual perception of God and our understanding of our spirituality is also evolving as we continue to grow. Today, we are evolving to understand God as Oneness, Love, Inclusively and Connection. | Week 3: The Sacred and Loving Heart | | How does the LGBT community that has been hurt and alienated by their spiritual community and by society come to terms with the prejudice of others? How do we reconcile what we have been traditionally taught with who we are today? We can’t change others but we can gain a new understanding and healing for ourselves. We must be willing to offer others what we want from them: understanding and acceptance. This is an opportunity to contribute to the healing of human consciousness. | Week 4: Co-Creating Spiritual Community | | What does it mean to co-create a safe, inclusive spiritual community? Jesus said to “Love your neighbour as yourself.” He did NOT say to make your neighbour as yourself. Inclusiveness is more than just tolerating or welcoming someone. Inclusiveness is more than just making a decision to accept a minority. Inclusiveness embraces all people as expressions of God and invites others to be a part of community. | | Space is limited, so please register for either movie night by emailing
